Needle coke was activated by the aid of KOH to develop high performance activated carbon as carbon electrode forelectric double layer capacitor (EDLC). The effect of preparation conditions was investigated and needle coke derivedactivated carbons (NCD-AC) were characterized using BET surface area and EDLC capacitance. NCD-Acs showed the largesurface area (~2900m2900m2/g), small average pore size (~2.3nm), high EDLC capacitance (~44F/g) and good electricalconductivity with a low IR drop (0.06V~) in organic electrolytic solution of Et/Et4NBF NBF4 (1M) according to two-electrodemethod, based on anisotropic .texture of staring carbonaceous material
