FRP strips glued onto the surface of concrete members is a technique often used to strengthen reinforced concrete structures. A new type of anchoring device has been developed to improve the bond strength between the FRP and the concrete. It consists of a U-channel steel piece which is glued over the FRP strip. The webs of the U-channel steel piece are glued into two slits which are cut into the concrete surface parallel to both sides of the FRP strip. Tests have been carried out on that anchoring device which showed that a significant increase in anchored tensile force could be obtained. A design approach has been developed.
