In order to evaluate the effect of photoelectric method on corrosion potential shifting in the negative direction in BWR circumstances, corrosion potential measurements under UV irradiation condition and Cherenkov radiation intensity measurements in a research reactor were performed. The corrosion potentials of TiO_2 or TiO_2(Pt) coated type 304 stainless steel were shifted in the negative direction by the UV irradiation. From the polarization curve measurements, anodic current density was increased by the irradiation. Cherenkov radiation measurements show that effective wavelength light for exciting the TiO_2 is in existence and it has enough intensity for shifting the corrosion potential in the negative direction.
