Imagine a future where sensors aggregate to form groups (societies) for the specific purpose of mutual support. These groups would not be formed arbitrarily but with a specific purpose in mind, to help one another or a cause. The members that make up the group are called 'sensor agents', entities that exist in the continuum between smart sensors and what is commonly referred to as intelligent agents. Development of such sensor agents and their associated behaviors will require more than a reduced instruction set and faster computer. What will be needed are new perspectives and insights into biological reasoning to understand the cognitive processes that elicit 'intelligence' and complex reasoning. This purpose of this paper is three fold. First, is to define a sensor agent. Second, to provide a basic list of behaviors that can be associated with intelligent behavior. And third, to show how a sensor agent might be developed that exhibits some form of emergent behavior.
