A Case Study of Environmental Site Assessment and Remediation in China

To sum up, although the results of site inspection indicate that the accumulations of high concentration of organic compounds were found in the limited area, some of locations were only situated in the nearby regions of oil/water separators and discarded plants. And it was certainly related with random man made filling. In total the spread tendency toward the exterior of plant area was not observed, it has relations with the distributions of thicker and denser clay layer in the area where chemicals were hard to penetrate. Therefore, according to the results of site assessment, because the ground water flowing out of the plant area is not used in the downstream areas at present, there are not contaminated risks, and remedial actions would not be conducted for the moment. But under possible condition, for some soil parts containing high concentration of TPHs, for example, BPH processing area, adopting measure of soil replacing is also necessary. It should be noted that the environmental management for soil and groundwater within factory would be strengthened. This is because China will increase to protect the health of worker a-gainst contaminated risk and to control the contaminant transferred to the exterior of site by soil and groundwater along with improving and perfecting environmental regulation in future. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen measure of preventing leak for construction and rigor of dispose and management to material and waste and to adopt cleaning soil to level field. It is suggested to maintain the preserved monitoring wells and work out a routine monitoring plan, so that it can provide a foundation for making an emergency action.
