Knowledge modeling and advanced control of evaporators in cane sugar industry

The control of evaporation processes is of the highest importance in food industry, and more especially in the sugar industry. Based upon industrial experiences, and in order to improve the existing control law performances, this paper presents the design of an accurate knowledge model, validated with data collected from a specific cane sugar plant. Then an advanced control law, including an observer of the unmeasured states, is carried out on a simulator. The results presented here are sufficiently relevant to think next to its implementation on an industrial plant.
