In this work an analysis of influence of inductive reactance value of an Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) on degree time and energy efficiency is presented, to obtain refractory grade electro-fused magnesia. Electric concepts of design to change the inductive reactance value of electric circuit are discussed. Graphics of effective power at transformer and effective power at arc are presented and discussed. Graphics of time and energy efficiency degree in function of electric power factor are presented too. The results show a positive influence to save energy with higher arc voltage and with smaller inductive reactance value, when the arc relative current remains constant. A relation of electric energy costs with heat losses to melt magnesia refractory grade is presented. An optimum criterion of operation to save time and energy is proposed to fuse refractory grade magnesia in EAF.
