The increasing importance of purging into molten steel in ladles has been recognized, resulting in the development of new types of purging plugs. Hense,over the past few decades, a considerable number of studies have been conducted on the gas purging plug with regard to bubbling reliability,durability,and safety. Mainly, two types of purging plug have been popularly used for the purpose of stirring and getting uniformity of molten steel in ladles. One is the porous-type plug with excellent bubbling reliability, and the other is the directional-type plug with high durability. The main problem of the porous-type plug was if s low service life, although it had excellent bubbling reliability. Therefore, this paper reports on the improved porous type plug with high service life in addition to excellent bubbling reliability by means of various improvements.
