The electric utility sector is feeing an unprecedented challenge to meet the demands of their customers in terms of availability and quality of power supply in a deregulated environment. This scenario is providing opportunities for a variety of technologies and operating modes, including Distributed Generation (DG), to meet the challenges of the twenty first century. A brief review of the technologies, their economics, and the issues facing their integration in the technical, economic, and market sense are presented.
