It can be proved fundamentally from the reciprocity theorem withwhich the electromagnetism is endowed that corresponding to eachspontaneous process of radiation by a charged particle there is aninverse process which defines a unique acceleration mechanism, fromCherenkov radiation to inverse Cherenkov acceleration (ICA), fromSmith-Purcell radiation to inverse Smith-Purcell acceleration (ISPA),and from undulator radiation to inverse undulator acceleration (IUA).There is no exception. Yet, for nearly 30 years after each of theaforementioned inverse processes has been clarified for laseracceleration, inverse transition acceleration (ITA), despitespeculation, has remained the least understood, and above all, nopractical implementation of ITA has been found, until now
