Maturing markets for recycled plastics from WEEE: An elaboration on the consequences for the evaluation of future end-of-life scenarios

In recent research, little attention has been given so far the economics of secondary plastics markets. Currently, programs are initiated to investigate the conditions for maturity of these markets. In this paper it is shown that various developments related to in particular legislation and economies of scale (in contrast to e.g., for example technology) have a relatively high impact on the economical and ecological performance of WEE end-of-life scenarios. It is concluded that maturing secondary plastics markets,with favorable economies of scale will greatly benefit-the economics as well as the environmental aspects of end-of-life scenarios.
