This paper presents an iterative, evolutionary process toward a collaborative engineering environment that supports multi-organizational, distributed design teams. It seamlessly integrates software tools that have proven successful in production use. As a first step in this process, a collaborative Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation environment is implemented. On-line visualization, interactive computational steering, and collaborative functionality that have been developed in the OViD and CCF research projects at LRR-TUM and Emory are applied to an industrial parallel CFD code.
