Image fusion techniques for blindly constructing an improved image from several distorted visual images mainly due to parts of image being out of focus has gained much attention recently. This paper presents a novel high performance image fusion algorithm using wavelet transform decomposition and image registration. The integration of image registration process in this algorithm improved the quality of fused image significantly. The performance of this algorithm is further enhanced by effectively combining both the maximum energy and adaptive weighted average operation as the fusion engine. The success of this algorithm is demonstrated through various real image fusion examples.
