A Structural Development of Multipoint Multimedia Conference Service

Recently, the needs for multimedia communication are increased as media coding technology, personal computer performance, and network speed are dramatically enhanced. In near future, wireless multimedia communication will become popular after IMT-2000 service is provided. Various multimedia services will be provided in the future network. Korea Telecom provides MMC (multipoint multimedia conference) service as a public service. In this paper, the structural development method of multipoint multimedia conference service is described. Several hardware components having various operating systems are needed to develop a multimedia service. And it is efficient to develop the components of the system simultaneously. In order to coordinate the development processes for multimedia system and reuse the software components of the service system for other multimedia services, the system is decomposed into components that have layered structure and whose functions are independent from others. Each component as well as the MMC system has it's own life cycle in development process. MMC system is divided into several packages such as conferlink schedule package, conferlink tariff package, conferlink service interface package, conferlink multipoint control unit control package, and confelink database control package.
