Integration of Simulation and the Production Planning Module of the SAP R/3 System

Simulation methods are very suitable to overcome the planning weaknesses of traditional systems for production planning. By example of the production planning module (PP) of the R/3 System of the market leader SAP it is shown, how an integration between the common simulation system SyteAPS/SDM (SDM) and R/3 can be realized in the technical and the economic view. This integration uses the R/3 standard Production Optimization Interface (POI), which is part of the so-called Supply Chain Planning Interfaces of R/3. An integration of simulation methods and R/3 adds new functionality to the ERP application for production scheduling. The benefits of the integration are analyzed.
