Harness is an experimental Java-based metacomputing system based upon the principle of object oriented, dynamically reconfigurable, networked computing frameworks. Harness supports reconfiguration not only in terms of the computers and networks that comprise the virtual machine, but also in the capabilities of the VM itself, the capability to plug new computational services into an existing application allows the development of framework applications capable of reconfigure themselves and the environment at run time according to the need of the current execution. To illustrate this capability we have developed a reusable framework for distributed reconfigurable simulations.
