摘要

Virtual Reality is a combination of technologies whose goal is to integrate real and synthetic sensory signals and present them to a user in such a way that he or she thinks they're being immersed into a virtual world or virtual environment. Computer graphics systems normally require us to work with images displayed upon a conventional monitor, with the result that interaction is affected through a flat 2D image. The virtual reality approach is to visually isolate the user from the real world and substitute real-time, stereoscopic, computer-generated images with the aid of a head-mounted display, which effectively immerses them in a virtual environment. This synthetic environment can be based upon some physical model, an imaginary 3D world, or a model based upon an abstract dataset. There are several main events that have been achieved in the last hundred years that have made Virtual Reality possible. For example: the telephone; radio; and TV; the evolution of semiconductors from diodes into transistors and integrated circuits; the development of integrated circuits into microprocessors chips and liquid-crystal displays; and the rapid evolution of computer power have all contributed to the development of virtual reality technology. Early attempts at simulation, including the first flight simulator, the sensorama arcade ride attributed to VR's development. Early flight simulators employed scale models of airports as a source of images for the simulator's display system. A miniature video camera was moved over the model to mimic the simulated plane's motion in the space. Today, physical models have been virtual environment, which makes flight simulators one the most advanced forms of virtual reality systems currently available. 3-D movies, and video games were all precursors to today's Virtual Reality simulations. Immersion and interactivity are the two criteria on which Virtual Reality's simulations are based.
