摘要

The magnetocaloric properties of GdAl_2 and Nd_2Fe_(17) have been determined by three methods: (1) measured directly in pulsed (~0.2 s duration) and semi-static magnetic fields; (2) calculated from the heat capacity measured as a function of temperature in various constant magnetic fields, and (3) calculated from magnetization measured as a function of magnetic field at various constant temperatures. The resultant values as obtained from the three techniques are in good to excellent agreement with one another. The magnetocaloric effect values, ΔS_(mag) and ΔT_(ad), are about what one would expect relative to the prototype materials when one considers the intrinsic fundamental physical properties of the various substances.
