Risk calculation - The effects of different representations of weather data and release orientation

On behalf of the UK Health and Safety Executive (HSE), the sensitivity of risk assessment results to the selection of wind-stability pairs and release orientation has been investigated. An idealised site transferring and storing anhydrous ammonia was assumed and five discrete weather 'sets' and horizontal and vertical release orientations modelled. The research concluded that the selection of wind-stability pairs and the modelling of release orientation can be critical to risk assessment results and the conclusions and recommendations made.
