Pulmonary drug delivery offers potential for chronic non-invasive administration of peptides and proteins to the systemic circulation. In addition to improving inhaler design and optimizing the formualtion, it is desirable to understand the pulmonary absorptive routes as well as the potential degradation pathways in order to maximize absorption.
