In order to meet rising technical and social demands in times when fossil energy is getting scarce and environmental regulations rise, the use of light metals increases in most domains of mechanical engineering. In the future, the automotive industry as well as the aircraft industry as one of the first employers of weight reduced components have great interest in the development of innovative materials and process technologies.
