摘要

A new procedure for soil investigation, design and construction control is presented for soft ground engineering. The proposed method, consisting of direct shear and cone penetration tests, DST and CPT, focuses to do soft ground engineering minimizing the regional variations both in soil behaviour and technical quality with the approach as simplified as possible. Design parameters to be necessary in soft ground engineering are firstly summarized together with various characteristics of natural clay deposits investigated up to the present. Theoretical backgrounds of the proposed method based on the various advantages of DST and CPT are then presented. Validity of the method are also demonstrated by extensive field and laboratory tests results on marine clays in the world as well as lots of case studies of stability on actual earth structures constructed on soft clays at and near failure.
