THE INFLUENCES OF DEREGULATION ON ELECTRIC POWER SUPPLY RELIABILITY

Electric power utilities are undergoing considerable change with regard to their structure, operation and regulation. This is particularly true in those countries with highly developed systems. This paper briefly illustrates some of the changes occurring in electric power environment in North America and Europe. It can be clearly seen that the thrust toward privatization and deregulation of the electric utility industry will introduce a wide range of reliability issues that will require new system reliability criteria and analytical tools that recognize the residual uncertainties in the new environment.
