Development and Application of Visual Risk Monitor Software for Nuclear Power Plant

The operation reliability of Nuclear Power Plant (NPP) is not only directly related to NPP economic benefit, but also closely related to NPP safety. The publication of WASH-1400 brings a new approach for nuclear safety study. All countries inthe world have conducted studies in PRA (Probabilistic Risk Assessment) application especially in the last decade. For instance, a reliability and availability analysis has been carried out in China-s Daya Bay NPP towards the systems and equipment (mostly electrical and instrument control system) which are prone to cause reactor trip or plant shutdown. It is incorporated inthe practice of operation events, maintenance decision, engineering improvement and combined with reliability analysis technologies of FMEA (Failure Mode and Effect Snalysis). FTA (Fault Tree Analysis), ETA (Event Tree Analysis), etc. It has hreat contribution to enhance the safety level and improve operation achievements. The subject in this paper is visual risk monitor software, which has been developed in order to redcue the unplanned emergency shutdown event. This software is apt to apply, easy to handle and is user friendly. With these characteristics, it is easy for the staffs of NPP maintenance, operation, and administration to learn and use.
