Arch Bridge, Coffs Harbour - Design and Construction

The bridge comprises a through arch main span and approach spans, and carries the Main Northern Rail Line over the Pacific Highway at Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia. At this location the Highway is 11 lanes wide (six through lanes and five turning lanes) with a functional requirement to clear the roadway with a single span. This produces a clear span of 46.2 metres after allowing for the effects of a 208 skew. Approach spans allow a footway crossing on each side of the roadway. The main span consists of a steel arch on each side of the track, supporting hangers and a composite steel and concrete bridge deck. The approach spans each comprise a pair of girders supporting a composite concrete bridge deck.
