摘要

The characterisation of aggregates using one or more parameters calculated from sieve analysis is a long standing practice. The Fineness Modulus (MF) and the Specific Surface (SS) are among the widely known and used parameters. These are used in aggregate proportioning methods. The paper gives the correct geometrical and mechanical definitions of the Fineness Modulus, highlights limitation of its use for aggregate classification and introduces a new parameter, the Fineness Centre (.CF) which can be used in order to classify different gradings having equal or similar MF value The MF and CF values of well known type grading curves are listed and a new method for combined aggregate proportioning, called MF-CF method, is described.
