Basic aspects of quality control of concrete

After the introduction of some basic concepts, the paper shows how realistic stochastic models for concrete strength can be derived. Attention is drawn to the fact that in general consecutive strenght values are correlated and not independent. The different common types of conformity criteria are discussed and the properties of the corresponding OC-lines are indicated. It is shown on which basis numerical values of the parameters in the criteria can be derived. By introducing the Average Outgoing Quality Limit (AOQL) concept a link is established with the commonly applied semi-probabilistic design format. The background of the conformity criteria in ENV 206 is given.
