Innovation and creating with magnetite high density aggregate

This paper examines the use of Magnetite, a natural iron oxide, to produce high density concrete (HDC) as a ready mixed and precast commodity; including the aggregate supply chain, and some innovative uses. High Density concrete is perceived as a specialised area of concrete production; and the 'Cinderella' of construction materails. In the latest version of a concrete reference book (1) a mere four lines are dedicated to the mateerial, assuming its use only for radiation shielding. Through the innovative thinking of engineers both in and outside the construction industry, high density concrete is developing into a valuable alternative to concrete with a normal density. Replacing steel and creating savings in construction costs. Fishing weights to Oil rigs, factory production to mass pours, all utilise Magnetite natural heavy aggregate to produce concrete with densities up to 4.0 t/m~3.
