The reality of a global marketplace has placed a premium on "faster, better, chaper" as the key elements of successful competition. Translated to supplier assessment in the international electronic and electronics related industries, focus has shifted from product assessment (qualification, inspection and test) to total process assessment combined with various techniques for reducing cost while increasing value added. This paper reviews past practices, current trends and anticipated future directions related to electronic component supplier assessment.
