The adoption of geospatial technologies in agriculture has provided precision agriculture service providers with an opportunity to incorporate remote sensing as a natural extension of their services. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate to the remote sensing industry how the application of value added remote sensing products can feed the demand for both spatial and temporal management approaches in the precision agriculture marketplace in Southern Ontario. The first portion of the paper will discuss the current status of the precision agriculture industry in Southern Ontario, the types of site-specific crop management services currently being offered, and the importance of channeling data and imagery through the appropriate industry networks. The second component of the paper will define how the demand for both spatial and temporal management in Site-Specific Crop Management (SSCM) influenced the practical introduction of remote sensing (RS). The final portion of the paper will predict where the future is in remote sensing in the Southern Ontario marketplace and issues that may arise surrounding RS services and product use.
