It is shown that a short and powerful laser pulse is allowed to propogate in a parabolic plasma channel without essential spreading and pulsation. This opportunity is due to compensation of pondermotive and relativistic nonlinearities for sufficiently short laser pulses with the result that the optical guiding plays the main role. The nonlinear dynamics of short pulses with power exceeding the critical one for relativistic selffocusing is studied by means of analytical and numerical methods. The long-distance pulse propagation without considerable form variation is demonstrated and the matching condition is discussed.
