Sweeping changes throughout the Department of Defense to improve efficiencies in acquisition processes have led to the creation of the simulation and analysis facility, or SIMAF, at Wright-Patterson AFB (WPAFB), OH. ^SIMAF is owned and operated by the Aeronautical Systems Center (ASC) in a substantial teaming partnership with the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL). ^The facility is staffed with a new modeling, simulation, and analysis federation. ^The federation has been formed through partnerships with engineering, analysis, and simulation offices at WPAFB. ^With SIMAF, this federation is conducting simulation and analysis for system and requirements trades in a way that is prototypical of the Simulation Based Acquisition vision. ^SIMAF fulfills the need for a facility appropriate for conducting highly classified simulations. ^This capability enables collaborative teams of USAF decision-makers, warfighters, and analysts to better and more quickly evaluate and develop advanced concepts and technologies for military applications. ^The federation's innovations include a more rigorous analytical approach to modeling and simulation using state-of-the-art distributed computing capabilities. ^The analysis approach capitalizes upon the complementary strengths of constructive and virtual simulation methodologies. ^SIMAF provides cutting-edge visualization capabilities, computing power, and air-to-air and air-to-ground combat simulations. ^(Author)
