The authors discuss the performance of an insulating system withfloating electrodes, submitted to lightning impulse tests. Theperformance of a four conductor compact system was analyzed, for mediumvoltage networks, known as “spacer systems” and theperformance of medium voltage gaps. For the spacer system, among thevarious conductor connections, those which presented floating electrodeswere discussed. Experimentally, the influence of these electrodes wasverified, with large dimensions, by comparison with standard systemswithout floating electrodes on the basis of the value of the criticalflashover voltage and mainly on the value of the standard deviation ofthe critical flashover voltage
