摘要

The obvious advantage of bioresorbable devices in bench marking against non-resorbable devices is the obviation of the surgical intervention after the device has fulfilled its mission. Bioresorbable devices, e.g. membrane, foils, minipins, and screws made of poly (α-hydroxy acids) are already commercially available or under intense experimental investigation and/or in clinical trials. Some of them are already commercially available.Reviewing the literature of bioresorbable devices designed and fabricated for surgical applications is characterized by an incomplete description of fundamental polymer properties and the applied manufacturing technologies. This paper gives a basic overview of the processing and fabrication technologies, physical properties as well as the biocompatibility of bioresorbable polymers and devices. Future trends in the development, fabrication and processing of bioresorbable devices will be discussed too.
