Stress Analysis of Stainless Steel Elbow and Tee Fittings Under Internal Pressure

Stainless steel fittings such as elbows, tees, nipples and etc. have been manufactured from forged, rolling, casting and etc. Recently, the fittings becomes to be manufactured by casting. Thus, the dimensions of the fittings manufactured by casting can be reduced. In addition, ISO(TC5/SC5) standard will be revised by taking the wall thickness of fittings made of casting into consideration. It is necessary to examine the stress state of the fittings manufactured by casting under internal pressure and external loads. In this paper, the stress and the deformation of Elbows and Tees subjected to internal pressure and tensile loads are analyzed by the finite-element method. The strains of the Elbows and Tees subjected to internal pressure were measured by using strain gauges. The numerical results are in fairly good agreement with the experimental results. As the results, it is deduced that the dimensions of elbow can be reduced.
