TGhis paper demonstrates the use of hydrophobic unplasticised poly(vinyl chloride) as an overalyer to minimise water interference at a pre-foemed conducting polymer sensor array. As well as attenuating the singal to water, the response of the modified sesor to polar organic compounds is also reduced with the added effect of a switch in sign of the measured parameter. Photo-dehydrodchlorination of the PVC overlyer has little consequent effect on sensor response.
