Many golf-course fairways are nitrogen (N) fertilized at amounts similar to that for agronomic crops, but unlike crops, no removal of N with harvest is made. Some golf course fairways have been N fertilized for decades and have had no clippings removed. This study helps determine the fate of this N. We sampled soils at N-fertilized golf-course fairways at St. Francisville and New Orleans, Louisiana to a 3-m depth in 1995 and determined water-extractable nitrate. In 1996, solis were sampled to 1 m and sites weere added from Alexandriak, Lafayette, Monroe, and Shreveport.
