Validation of performance assessments for nuclear waste repositories

摘要

Regulations applied to repositories for radioactive waste are very stringent-mostly specifying that releases should cause much lower doses to potentially exposed populations than they experience naturally from backround radiation. Even more difficult are the requirements that safety is assured for extremtly long periods (e.g. 10 000 years in the USA) or even for all time (i.e. no tempral cut-offs are specified) and that the models used in such assessments must be "validated".
