The problem of rapid simulated ageing can often be divided into two parts. The first is electing the best stresses to simulate ageing, followed by selecting the stress levels that rapidly bring a test to a conclusion. A small number of approaches exist. One under-utilized approach is step-stress testing. This method is compatible with Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT) or Multiple Environmental Overstress Test (MEOST) and can often be performed with small sample sizes. Data analysis of the ste-stress apporach involves standard rapid ageing consistency checks. Cumulative fatigue can be estimated when employing stepstress methods in many situations. A detailed example and analysis is presented here to clarify and make easier the use of step-stress approaches.
