Factor of safety of a helicopter exposed to ground fire

The paper has been intended to define and determine the factor of safety #PHI# of a helicopter exposed to ground fire. The main object of the authors' interest is the helicopter's rotor blade spar. The conept presented below joints theoretical anaysese and calculations made with the finitie elements method. The technique of determining the factor of safety #PHI# has been illustrated with an example of calculations carried out for the Polish-made W-3 `Solkol' helicopter.
