Effective isk assessment for improving industrial safety management

It is widely accepted that progressive improvment of industrial safety is heavily dependent on the introduction of a systematic vision of man-machine-workplace interactions. In this respect, the risk assessment phase is one of the most critial task in the management of industrial safety. The present paper presents a risk assessment model based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP), which, in comparison to classical models, whows greater flexibility with regards different types of hazard and is able to integrated choerently non-homogenous data of differing nature (quantitative and qualitative, or objective and subjective results of varying levels of preciion). Fourthermore, the model is also able to analyse the main factors (cases) affecting the risk. The methodology is illustrated with reference to a cae study concerning machining operations.
