A GIS based software tool for risk assessment and management in industrial areas

The paper presents the main characteristics of a decision support tool for the management of risk from accidients in industrial areas where hazardous substances are stored, processed and transported. The software uses the capabilities of a GIS (Geographic Information System) platform to easily deal with geographically referenced data and to make the interpretation of results straightforward. The analysis methodology has been developed during the ARIPAR project, where risk sources from fixed installations and transport of dangerous substances have been quantified for the Ravenna area in Italy.
