Poorly soluble drugs - especially when they are poorly soluble simultaneously in aqueous and organic media - are a severe problem in formulation development. An increasing number of newly developed drugs is poorly soluble resulting in too low bioavailability or excluding an acceptable formulation for man. One formulation approach is the transfer of the drug particles to drug nanoparticles, e.g. by milling (Nanocrystals~(TM)) or by high pressure homogenization leading to nanosuspensions (DissoCubes~(TM)). This paper describes the preparation of DissoCubes~(TM), characterizes them with regard to the physical properties and briefly discusses possible applications of nanosuspensions.
