A new pulsed macromolecular drug release device composed of biodegradable polymers and pH-sensitive hydrogels

There is growing evidence that continuous delivery may not be the optimal delivery manner for all drugs, but that pulsed delivery may be prefrred in many cases. Two kinds of pulsed release systems have been proposed. One is that delivers drugs in response to some environmental or physiologic variables. The other is preprogrammed pulsatile delivery system which delivers drugs depending on the system structure. In this paper, we report a new device composed of biodegradable polymers and pH-sensitive hydrogels for pulsed release of watersoluble macromolecular drugs.
