There are a number of measures of 'brain penetration' that have been used to rank the ability of compounds (or solutes) to cross the blood brain barrier (BBB), viz: (i) the steady-state distribution between blood and brain, (ii) the rate of permeation from blood or saline through the BBB, (iii) biological activity.
