During Session VIII of the Advanced Research Workshop, a planning effort based on several breakout groups identified areas in which the cooperative exchange of information could enhance the safety of surplus nuclear material as it makes it sway from dismantled warheads to ultimat disposition. Workshop participants divided into four groups to discuss topical areas selected from the flow of nuclear material as illustrated in a nuclear materials flow sheet(see p. 8). These breakout groups were selected to focus on the more important paths of nuclear material flow depicted in the flow sheet: Group 1. Nuclear Materials (Pu) Storage Transportation and Handling Group 2. Mixed Oxide Fuel (MOX) Production, Transportation and Handling Group 3. Spent Fuel Storage, Transportation and Handling Group 4. Geological Disposal, Wastes, and Environmental Issues.
