Mathematical modeling methods are used to solve the optimal design problem at the initial stage of developing a SAMS as a complex multilevel technical system, which includes a subsystem and elements of various functional purposes, to substantiate the requirements imposed on separate components of the system and to coordinate design decisions at various hierarchical levels. ^A mathematical method and its algorithm were developed for solving problems of optimal design for complex technical systems, such as high-dimensional nonlinear programming problems. ^The present method is used to solve the SAMS concept definition problem at the research and technical-proposal stage. ^(Author)
