The motion of a contact line, defined as the line where the interface between two fluids meets a solid surface, over the same surface introduces a difficulty) an unacceptable singularity in deformation rate and stress fields at the contact line) into the conventional assumptions of continuum (Newtonian fluid) mechanics.
