Abstract: This paper reviews the activities at OKSI related toimaging spectroscopy presenting current and futureapplications of the technology. We discuss thedevelopment of several systems including hardware,signal processing, data classification algorithms andbenchmarking techniques to determine algorithmperformance. Signal processing for each application istailored by incorporating the phenomenology appropriateto the process, into the algorithms. Pixel signaturesare classified using techniques such as principalcomponent analyses, generalized eigenvalue analysis andnovel very fast neural network methods. The majorhyperspectral imaging systems developed at OKSI includethe intelligent missile seeker (IMS) demonstrationproject for real-time target/decoy discrimination, andthe thermal infrared imaging spectrometer (TIRIS) fordetection and tracking of toxic plumes and gases. Inaddition, systems for applications in medicalphotodiagnosis, manufacturing technology, and for cropmonitoring are also under development. !12
