The pollution scenario of shallow marine environments off the Karachi coast, Pakistan, is established through determination of stable carbon isotope ratios (delta~(13)C) of total dissolved inorganic carbon, marine plants (mangroves and seaweed), stable isotope composition of nitrogen (delta~(15)N) in mangroves and seaweed, toxic/trace metal concentration and gross gamma activity in sea bottom sediments, total coliform bacterial population, electrical conductivity, and turbidity in polluted water sources (Layari and Malir River mouth areas), non-polluted Karachi sea water and pollution recipients (Manora Channel, southeast coast and northwest coast of Karachi).
